| The Western School District along with the other 500+ public school districts in the State of Michigan are facing difficult financial times. To help the public gain a better understanding of how Michigan funds public schools and why there is a pending budget crisis, a video was produced by the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD). Although Western is not part of the WISD, the vast majority of the information contained in this video is applicable to Western. The video Facing Michigan's School Funding Crisis! helps explain the difficulties schools are facing as they develop budgets for the 2010-2011 school year.
Over the next several weeks, a variety of informational meetings will be held to share the Western budget picture and seek input from parents, community members and staff on how to solve this problem for our district. The following meetings have already been scheduled:
Bean Elementary School, Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
Western Middle School, Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
Options High School, Monday, January 25, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
Warner Elementary School, Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
Western Community Arts Center, Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
Western Community Arts Center, Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
Please take this opportunity to become involved in helping Western find solutions to keep our school district financially sound, while maintaining a quality education for our children.
